Chinese Medicine for Women’s Health
When Hormonal Changes Start Affecting Everyday Life
Changes in hormones can show up in many different ways.
Why has my cycle suddenly changed? Why am I waking at night? Why do I feel hotter, more emotional or more tired than I used to?
Periods may become earlier, later, lighter or heavier. Sleep can change. Energy may fluctuate. Some women notice increased bloating, headaches, breast tenderness, mood changes or changes in body temperature.
During perimenopause and menopause, symptoms can also shift from month to month, making it difficult to know what is connected and what is not.
Some women already have a medical diagnosis. Others have been told that tests are normal, yet they still do not feel like themselves.
A Whole-Person Approach
Good care starts with understanding the wider picture.
Digestive symptoms rarely exist in isolation. During your consultation, we look at your digestion alongside your health history, medications, sleep, energy, stress, lifestyle and any other symptoms that may be relevant.
This helps me understand the pattern as a whole and decide what may be appropriate for you — including what not to recommend.
How Traditional Chinese Medicine Looks at Women´s Health
Traditional Chinese Medicine considers the pattern behind your symptoms, rather than looking at one hormonal or menstrual symptom on its own.
We may consider:
menstrual cycle length and regularity
flow, colour and duration of bleeding
menstrual discomfort
PMS symptoms
sleep
hot flushes or night sweats
temperature changes
energy and fatigue
mood and emotional changes
digestion and bowel habits
headaches
breast tenderness
stress
vaginal dryness where relevant
changes during perimenopause or menopause
other symptoms occurring alongside hormonal changes
Two women may both experience irregular periods, hot flushes or poor sleep, but their wider TCM patterns may be very different.
This is why Chinese herbal prescriptions are individualised rather than selected simply according to a symptom or life stage.
Your Health Comes First
I only recommend care that I believe is appropriate for your individual situation. If Chinese herbal medicine is not suitable, I will tell you.
Clear, Personalised Guidance
I explain what I am seeing from a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, what I recommend and why, so you understand your options.
